Review & Renew Your Goals

It is so hard to believe that we are halfway through 2021! Where has the time gone? Last year at this time, we could not wait for life to return to a normal pace and now that we are here, many are feeling the pressure of this fast-moving pace. Schedules are filling up with activities and commitments, travel is increasing, life balance is getting shaky, and those wonderful goals set in January are starting to take a backseat to our newfound freedom. 

With the long weekend here, now is the perfect time to take advantage of a little R&R, and review and refresh your goals and outlook, both personally and professionally. For me, writing has taken a bit of a backseat over the last year. As I sit here and review my 2021 goals, here are a few tips to get you started on renewing your outlook:

REFLECT / REVIEW: Go back six months, or even a full year, and review the goals that were set. Write down and highlight all of the goals that were achieved, goals that were missed, skipped or put on hold due to the pandemic. Identify things that worked well, things that did not work well and need to be changed, and lessons learned along the way.  

RESET: Review each goal, note where you are with the goal, where you want to be with the goal and reset if necessary. Goals to think about…..health (physical/mental), financial, professional/career and personal(family/friendships). For example, if your goal was to lose ten pounds this year and you have achieved that goal and want to lose more weight, reset the goal for the second half of the year. Or, if you set a goal to pay off debt, save money for a down payment on a home or a much-needed vacation, and the pandemic created a financial hardship that placed the goal on hold, reset the goal and start again. 

REVISIT: Create weekly and monthly time blocks on your calendar for the next six months to reflect, review, and reset goals continually. Tracking progress, achievements, and resetting goals regularly helps maintain momentum. And, last but not least recharge!

RECHARGE: Take the time to relax and recharge! Reenergizing your mind, body, and soul is imperative to maintaining the focus and energy necessary to reach your goals and dreams. Give yourself permission to relax and most of all, give yourself permission to dream!
